Two Rottweiler sisters, 7 mo. Lovely. Their gait is not ok. What to do?
Possibly hip dysplasia or knee/leg alignment. Are they "pure bred?" I got a neo mastiff a few years ago from an a#$%hole breeder- and it brought me nothing but heartache. 2 surgeries, therapy and then-paralyzed from the waist down one day. Out of the blue. I don't want to scare you- but you need to have hips and legs X-rayed. She had it REALLY REALLY bad and was diagnosed at only 5 months. Lived till 3. Anti-inflammatory meds, as they tend to develop artritis early- mild simple exercise to stay limber and believe it or not water therapy (swimming) worked good. I really think it helped her pain. She "hopped" like a bunny to walk.Understand- she also had a "deformed spine," as her tail was way over to the left and a host of other issues. If simple dysplasia- many larger breeds have it and do just fine.with simple therapy. And, take it from me- unless you plan on a total hip replacement-do not do the other "small fix" surgery if in fact it is dysplasia. Caused more pain short term and did nothing. Good luck to you and if the x-rays show a mild dysplasia-make the changes now- and it will really slow the progression.
