Can I claim money as a freelancer?

I am going to be going freelance with my software development in the new-year, the problem I am having is that I wil not be making an income until around March, meaning I have no money to support myself. I was wondering if the government can give me any benefits or grants to support me during the development? I will be dedicating all of my time to this project so will be unable to work and have already borrowed a small amount of money to cover start-up overheads and can not take out another loan simply to cover my wages.
