Rear Hatch on Mazda Tribute.?

hey I don't have a answer but I have a 2001 mazda tribute and I have the exact same issue. I just thought it was a defect with the make and model...however it has come in handy one day I locked my keys in the truck on the front seat but when I remember by back hatch didn't lock I was able to climb up to the front to get my keys.. I know it doesn't help much but it may be a common issue.
