Gain to much weight during pregnancy?

I am 27 weeks pregnant i have gained a total of 35 pounds....my friend is 26 weeks and shes only gained 10 pounds. They say i gained alot but why did they tell me my babies growin a little small but yet i gained all this weight anyone have a answer
