an auditor conducts an audit by reviewing your doentation against what you have reported or indicated. if youre talking about an IRS audit, then they would want to look at your receipts, reports, records and look at it against what you reported. Same came be said for most any other type of audit. Some which dont require reporting like the Dept of Labor may come in to do an audit and make sure you have all the required docs in your employees files filled out properly, make sure the proper signs are posted, that type of thing
