Is unbearable loneliness or lack of friends for INFP types common?

That sounds a lot like the stuff I used to watch. Believe it or not, when it comes to friendships opposites don't attract. Being alone is different than feeling alone. If you think you should be alone, its going to be a lot harder to make friends.
