I have a quote i need help deciphering.?

It's cause he was from Vermont, and nobody notices people from Vermont (or even knows where Vermont is half the time.) I ume he's speaking from experience. He's just saying that there are plenty of smart, talented, educated people who go through life never getting anywhere better than anyone else. In order to be noticed or listened to you don't even have to have those qualities, you just have to stick it out, and fight your way to the top, so to say. (This goes for anything in life) You need to be determined to do it, and just keep t it until it eventually turns out your way.
